These are just a few photos from around Centro, which is the main area in the city of Porlamar, and it's centered around the "square" where the big church is located. There are many clinics, doctor's offices, pharmacies, health food stores, vendors, and laboratories located in this area.

There are also three streets we call the 'walking streets', because cars are not allowed to drive on them. They are really sidewalks with stores and vendors lining each side.

One comment about the last photo above, this gentleman sells a hodge podge of items just like numerous other vendors here. But one thing this gentleman sells that most others do not is aceite de coco, or coconut oil in English. Now, this oil is not good for consumption, but is ok to use on the skin after sunbathing or showering. It has been processed by cooking, so it is not a 'virgin' coco oil. I placed this photo here, of his stand, because he has become a friend of ours, and is one of the MANY nice people here.

WORDS OF CAUTION: Visitors to this area (and others) should be careful not to let their belongings out of their site, and should always keep their eyes open to their surroundings.

Also
, and this is a big one...NEVER trade money on the streets. Go to a reputable exchange house, or have someone you know and trust help you.

AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST
, when hailing a taxi use a reputable taxi line which has newer cars and clearly marked, not an old car, or taxi which only has a "TAXI" placcard in the window.
