| Update: Oct. 2010 I went in to have my teeth cleaned and Dr. Vicente told me that he uses an ultrasonic tool to clean teeth now. He says he has used it for about a year. I was surprised how much cleaner my teeth felt and how much less time it took than the old fashioned scaling tool. I was very happy with the results, and the procedure didn't cause any pain like with scaling. ~~~~~~~
Dr. Vicente (Vincent in English) is a very pleasant guy with a great sense of humor. We came to know him when my daughter wanted a dentist for braces who was close to her work. She liked him right away, but he told her he does EVERTHING BUT braces. He says, "I do root canals, fillings, extractions, etc. He directed her to the orthodontist that works in his office (listed below). He also says he will refer patients to other dentists if he feels the work is too extensive for him, "but that isn't too often," he admits. I know that sounds egotistical, but he's really not. He says, "Why should I do that when I can do the work myself?" |
My
personal experience with him
has been very positive. I did have to go to another dental
office for a
panoramic x-ray, but that is nothing unusual for the island. It takes
costly specialized equipment that smaller offices have no space for.
And there are only a few places that do them. It's easy to tell that he likes what he does, and is more interested in saving a person's teeth, if at all possible, than taking their money. When I was a kid wearing braces, our family dentist did them for me as my parents didn't have the money for a specialist. Today a dentist wouldn't think of doing them. But Dr. Vicente says he does assist the orthodontist by performing any oral surgery that might be necessary. He also does the oral surgery for patients who choose to have tooth implants done instead of a bridge. One last important piece of info...Dr. Vicente told me he does NOT use amalgam fillings unless he has no choice. He says it is not a good material for fillings. He says he uses porcelain or the newest generation of resin, and he uses Gutta Percha for root canals. He says he uses "only the best materials." And just so you know...Ana Maribel is Dr. Vicente's wife. |
